Angels vs. Yankees in the Playoffs? Expect It

By Lance Raleigh

I hope for a potential American League Championship Series battle with the Angels just the same way I look forward to turning 40 and having my spouse inform me I need a totally-invasive prostate exam.

To explain, I dread the future more so than Chris Russo.

The Yankees beat the Angels at their own specialty on Monday in New York, manufacturing the lead run thanks to the infinitely important Brett Gardner and some help from Chone Figgins, who was more edgy at third than Tom Brady in the pocket versus Buffalo.

The final tally read 5-3, allowing New York to grow its lead over the Angels of CA to 6 games in the battle for home field advantage in the postseason. It was a key win for the Yankees, although the context of the showdown was maybe even more prominent.

A playoff meeting between these 2 teams might be a bloodbath.

I recognize, there is that whole issue of the divisional series to be settled. The Yankees will have to beat the Tigers and the Angels and have to find a way to beat the Red Sox, a franchise that consistently appears to bury them. But in a year where the Yankees have earned the nominated status as "The Franchise To Beat", it is impossible to not think about the Angels bigger picture.

The Angels' team is filled with players that frighten me. Figgins, Torii Hunter, Kendry Morales, and that's right, Bobby Abreu, comprise the heart of a deep roster that mirrors the strength of the Yankees' order.

Expect a series between these 2 organizations to go the distance or six at worst. Expect a series where a 3-run margin of victory is deemed a blowout.

What I am attempting to say is, predict a series where you'll need to drink heaps of fluids...and I do not suggest water. - 30247
